The Importance of Protecting Historical Heritage

La importancia de proteger el patrimonio histórico

The Palazzo d’Orleans in Palermo is an 18th-century palace that houses the seat of the presidency of the Sicilian region and is currently undergoing restoration.

One of the main challenges when restoring historic buildings is dealing with moisture issues, either because they lack the proper systems to prevent it or because the existing systems have become obsolete. Rainwater infiltration, for example, poses a significant risk to the stability of the structure, as water can penetrate the building’s interior, potentially compromising its structure and eventually leading to collapse. For this reason, it is essential to act quickly, find a solution, and assess the damage caused by moisture. In this case, the best solution is to install a waterproofing system on the various surfaces of the structure.

For the restoration of the Palazzo dOrleans, the DRY120 waterproofing system has been chosen. The DRY120 membrane provides reliable waterproofing for terraces, rooftops, balconies, patios, sills, trafficable and non-trafficable roofs. It is specifically designed to drain moisture generated in substrates. The geotextile on its back side allows air circulation between the substrate and the membrane, removing water vapor molecules, preventing bubble formation, and keeping the substrate dry. Additionally, it can be installed on substrates with up to 5% residual moisture, ensuring 100% effective and secure waterproofing, thus protecting the life of the building.

Protecting our historical heritage is a responsibility we all share. We must ensure that these buildings retain their splendor for many years to come, so they can be admired and enjoyed by future generations.
